I know what it feels like to have oily skin and the frustration that comes with it. I will have good days where I have no breakouts and I don’t have to use a clay mask or spot treatment and my face is beautiful and clear.  And then there are days when my skin is freaking out and when it does I’d definitely need products that work and work fast!

When you’re fighting with your skin it can be stressful and it can cause your mood and your self-esteem to dip.  Maybe not a lot, but somehow you do feel a little self-conscience because you know it’s right there on your face.  During the day you can at least cover it up with makeup to make it look less pronounced and less irritated looking.  But at night when you put on your skincare and your treatments, you’ll feel better knowing that they work.  But what if they didn’t?  That makes it all the more stressful because you either wait for it to go away or try to find something as quickly as possible that may or may not work.  I mean how stressful is that?

I recently went through this with a spot treatment that I bought on a whim.  It contained tea tree oil which is known to help treat acne.  But after a month of use it didn’t work as well as I thought it would.  I’m always one to try out new products so you can say it’s the skincare junkie in me and the fact that I have to try everything once is what gets me into trouble.  For the most part I do read labels, study ingredients and see if they work for what I need it for and I usually luck out.

In this article, I will be talking about the one spot treatment that has never let me down and has given me awesome results over and over again.

neostrata skincare review

Neostrata blemish spot gel

I always end up going back to this one whenever I’ve used another one whether it was good or not.  I don’t know why but it’s my go to to when all else fails.  In my early twenties I started using Neostrata skincare.  I started with their toner gradually got onto their moisturizer and when I had some success with a couple of their products, I started to use more of them.  And this is where I found the spot gel.

This spot gel contains 5% glycolic acid and 2% salicylic acid which helps to exfoliate and reduce breakouts.  Plus with the exfoliating process it helps to reduce the dark spot left after the break out which who doesn’t like that in a product?  It comes in a pump which I love because you can control and makes it less messy and it is a clear gel that you put it on your breakouts and it disappears within a minute.

For me personally I do not feel any tingling or irritation whatsoever, but that’s probably because I’ve used glycolic acid for years and my skin is used to it so it may feel different to you.  I do not experience any dryness either from this product.  When I do use this product on my breakouts the next day I see a difference in my skin.  I use this product day and night and it doesn’t disturb my makeup or skincare.  But what I always recommend when using glycolic acid or salicylic acid is to wear your sunscreen because you will not see the results you want and you’ll think the product is not effective enough when it is on your skin.

In general when exfoliating your face whether it’s a physical scrub or a moisturizer with an acid in it, wear your sunscreen!  Because exfoliating your skin may or may not cause irritation or redness or sensitivity to the sun.  And on top of the breakouts on your skin, who wants more stress in their lives about their skin?  I know I don’t, so until next week have a good week my beauties!
