Masks are not just at the spa anymore. Today you can find masks of all kinds, sheet masks starting from $2.00 and up and even your classic mask in a jar can start from $10.00 and up. And every one of every skin type can benefit from a relaxing mask once a week. Now is the fun part of finding the right mask for you. The mask world has only gotten bigger and will continue to because of the Korean skincare craze.
When I first started in the beauty industry, you were only able to buy a jar of your favorite mask. For me it was easy, I bought a clay mask for my super oily skin. But what if you had skin that changed with the season? You obviously have to buy a new jar of mask. Which isn’t a huge issue but you would probably have some left over from your other mask that you say you used in the summer but can use in the winter and by the following year that same that mask that you used last summer was probably not good.
That’s why when a few years ago when the whole korean skincare craze came over to Canada and sheet masks started getting more popular, it was a lot easier to choose a mask that would help you figure out what you should be using.
I’ve only started using sheet masks since last year, because my skin started changing. I wasn’t sure what to use during the cooler seasons because I would always use a clay mask all year round. That’s why I got interested in buying several different sheet masks to see what I could use before committing to a jar of a mask that I can actually use. Sheet masks saved my skin and also helped me make a sound decision to buying my first ever hydrating mask in a jar.
I’m really glad that this part of the skincare industry has gotten a bit easier to choose a mask. It makes my life and I’m sure yours easier to figure out treatment mask for your skin type whenever it is. Because to me skincare is very personal and you have to make a good decision about it because you will be committed to that skincare for few months for more. So while there might be more choices in masks, at least those choices can be made by purchasing a sheet mask or a jar of your favorite mask.
I’ve seen the skincare industry change and change for the better. There is more choices than ever before and I do love choices. So when you go pick out your next great mask, the only thing you have to ask yourself “do I want a sheet mask or a good jar of one maske?”
Do you use a serum in your routine? If you don’t why not? A serum can really be effective in conjunction with the rest of your skincare routine. But why? It’s just another thing to put on my face and my skin can’t handle all that moisture. I know how you feel, but if I had to choose I would pick a serum over a moisturizer. Here are a few benefits of using a serum.
It sinks into the skin deeper so it keeps your skin hydrated throughout the day batter
Oily skin can benefit from a serum because of how quickly it sinks in to the skin leaving no residue or feelings of heaviness on the skin
It has about 2 to 5 times more potency than the face cream. And using it in conjunction with cream, you can have a better results vs. Using no serum
A moisturizer or sunscreen usually sits on top of the skin so it isn’t moisturizing the skin all day causing skin to feel uncomfortable, tight and dehydrated. That’s why putting a serum under your moisturizer will help skin stay hydrated all day.
Wearing a sunscreen and being outside all day can leave your skin very thirsty. Drink your water, but also put on a serum before your sunscreen so you can keep your skin hydrated as much as possible. Plus again it is super light so you won’t feel it.
Clinique smart custom repair serum
I am not a fan of Clinique, but I have used a few of their skincare products. Unfortunately I had no success with them because they were either too heavy feeling, did not absorb well and it was too strong and irritating my skin. The only skincare product that was comfortable to use was there cleansing gel. So trying this all in one custom repair serum, I was going into this as a very skeptical person. Because of my history and plus a serum claiming it can do everything for your skin, you kind of want to try it and put it to the test.
The first thing about this serum is that the ingredients list is very long! This serum says it is suitable for sensitive skin, but just read the ingredient list to make sure you’re not allergic to any one of these ingredients. Because it is designed to handle all skin issues including acne scarring, uneven skin tone and wrinkles that’s why the ingredients list is super long. From licorice extract that reduces inflammation, vitamin C for dark spots, salicylic acid and glucosmine for brightening, palmitoyl oligopeptide to boost collagen and ultrsomes and roxisome for UV damage. Throw in some hyaluronic acid and you have a hydrating serum to go.
So far it has only been three weeks and I have no problem with the serum so far. My skin feels hydrated, feels soft and my skin doesn’t feel tight or uncomfortable. I haven’t seen much of a difference in my skin as far as it being brighter or more even, but that hopefully will come in time and with the weather changing I tend to break out a bit more then usual. But it hasn’t caused any more issues, so that is a good thing for me.
It’s hard going back to the skincare company that you’ve used some products from them and you haven’t had a good experience. So being open minded can be tough when you come across a product that seems so irresistible that you need to try it. Don’t let a bad experience stop you, you may never know if that’s the product that will change your skin or even your mind towards that brand. Maybe this is the product that will change my mind towards Clinique, but only time will tell. Until next week, thank you for reading this article and I’ll see you next week my beauties!
I just recently got a few essentials for my skincare routine including an eye serum. The great thing about this serum is that it contains retinol which is great for ant aging. I love using eye creams because it helps to protect and moisturize the eye area, plus the skin around the eye area that is thinner than the rest of your face, so you want to make sure you buy the right eye cream to address your needs and concerns.
I personally haven’t use retinol since I was in college and I used it for my acne. It was a topical cream that contained 1% pure retinol and boy did I see a change in my skin. It cleared my skin of acne by smoothing my skin, making my pores look smaller and help with my acne scars and spots. That is what retinol is used for usually but now it is widely used for wrinkles as well.
Now many years later, I am using retinol again but this time an eye cream and I hope that I’ll get the same results as I did years ago. Or am I asking too much of my eye cream? Here is my review and description of this eye cream.
Neostrata all in one eye serum with 0.075% retinol
This as an eye serum which sinks into your skin quickly and serums tend to be 3 to 5 times more effective. You can pair it up with an eye cream if you need to moisturize the eye area because if you have dry skin the eye serum will not be enough. I have oily skin so it’s perfect for me.
The most effective ingredient in this product is the 0.075% retinol which is great for the eye area and also safe enough for the skin around the eye area. It is supposedly safe for sensitive skin, but for me I had to build up a tolerance for this eye serum because it was making my under eye area feel tingling and a burning sensation. I can wear it in the daytime now but every now and then I still feel some tingling, but I’ve only been using it for a couple weeks now.
Right now as far as I can tell it’s taking some time too get used to the product. Again this is my first time in many years using retinol on my face. So if your first time users of using retinol you will experience tingling, burning sensation maybe even a little irritation around the eye. Try to build your tolerance to it by using it only at night time or every other night or what ever is comfortable for you.
You must wear sunscreen because in order to get the best results like glowing skin sunscreen will at least protect your skin and help with the results you want to get from your creams. Plus retinol is fairly strong and may cause sensitivity so wear the SUNSCREEN!
Thank you for reading my post and I’ll see you nextweek. Have a good day my beauties!
You should know by now I love all things lips. Lip balms, lip gloss, lipstick, lip treatments and the elusive lips masks that I have yet to try. But now that the seasons are changing my lips will be getting drier and more chapped unfortunately. So I need 24/7 care on my lips during the fall and winter season. I’m just going to dive right into my reviews of the two lip balms I’ve chosen and hopefully will last through the fall/winter season.
Clarins moisture replenishing lip balm
Clarins is based in France and they take a natural, botanical approach to their skincare which I love because who wants to put chemicals on their face all time? I have used several products from this company before and I’ve loved every one of them.
I have used this lip balm in the past and I am going back to it because it really does moisturizing keep my lips looking plump and healthy looking. This lip balm contains Shea butter and rose walks to really keep lips hydrated and moisturized. It does contain mineral and castor oil which I think they really don’t need as a kind of makes the balm slippery but not sure if that’s the roles wax that’s making it that way as well. It has a soft pinky hue too it but it goes on clear and gives you a semi matte finish. There is a soft rose scent to it but it disappears quickly after application.
I do use it alone or under my lip gloss to give me extra moisture. Because of its moisturizing power it really does keep my lips looking its best all the time. I can even forgive the fact that it is a bit slippery because of its healing powers I am willing to try again.
Maybelline baby lips Dr. Rescue
Remember when these lip balms first came out they were everywhere? I had a couple of these in my makeup drawer, used one and forgot about this one. Now that I have found it it will be used for sure. Here is the details on this one.
The Dr. Rescue is different from the other baby lips lip balm because it is medicated and specifically to help with dry, chapped lips. The reason why it is a different is because it contains menthol and eucalyptus to help soothe and cool lips. Because of these two ingredients it has of fairly strong scent and you do feel a cooling and tingling sensation on your lips. That sensation does go away but the scent of it takes awhile to dissipate. It may not be bothersome to some people, but for me I found it fairly strong and kind of hard to layer other products that may have a scent as well. But the other ingredients such as Shea butter and honey helps to nourish and moisturize the lips.
It does really moisturize my lips and I find it comfortable. Plus the affordability of this lip balm means I can put up with the smell. I just pair it with a lip gloss that doesn’t have a strong scent to it and the added gloss from this balm gives you extra shine with the gloss.
When it comes to anything in beauty whether its $5.00 or $20.00 be open minded and give it a try. You may just have found your next greatest find. I’ll see you next week my beauties!
Before we even put our makeup, before we even apply a moisturizer we cleanse. We cleanse to get rid of dirt, buildup of dead skin cells and makeup. We start with a clean canvas, but we don’t put a lot of thought into a cleansing routine. I know I didn’t take it too seriously before until I realized my skin was changing as I got older. The cleansers I used to be for made my skin peeled tight, dehydrated and uncomfortable and now that I couldn’t use the cleansers I used to use I have to do some research and find some new ones to use.
If the cleanser was for oily skin, that’s all I needed to know. Molson the time it was a gel based and it would have some kind of treatment like glycolic acid or salicylic acid to help keep skin mat. If I use a cleanser like that now my skin would not necessarily be freaking out but it would feel uncomfortable and very dehydrated. But even though I still break out, have large pores and have to constantly block my skin throughout the day I still need a cleanser that is deep cleaning but will not make my skin feel tight and uncomfortable.
So what do you do when you’re in a predicament like mine? Well you basically have to listen to your skin and what it does during the seasons. My routine now is fall and winter I use a foam or creamy cleanser and in the summer I use a gel cleanser. It’s deftly not easy balancing the skin that one sack that the teenager but isn’t and that’s why I purchased my current cleanser by Neutrogena.
Neutrogena hydro boost cleanser
I chose this gel based cleanser for the fact that it contains hyaluronic acid (a little bit not a lot) which helps to maintain skins moisture balance I know you’re thinking it’s just a cleanser, you just wash it off and you go. What’s the big deal? Well it is the first step to your skincare routine and you want to start it off right. You want a cleanser that won’t over dry your face but also helps to remove dirt and makeup. That’s why this gel cleanser was a must for me. I still have oily skin but now that I’m older I don’t need ingredients in the cleanser to treat my acne, that’s what my skin care is there for.
So what I do in my cleansing process is I pump a small amount onto my Clarisonic brush, move the brush around my face for a minute and to wash off. It doesn’t really foam up and it doesn’t really have a heavy scent which I love. It leaves my skin clean but not over dry. This cleanser seems to be ideal for my combination oily skin.
So the next time you go buy a new cleanser just keep in mind your skin type, held the seasons affect your skin and what type of cleanser is suitable for your skin. If your skin does feel very uncomfortable, very tight and dehydrated and even almost irritated after you wash your skin I think it’s time to change it up and that’s what the experts at your favorite makeup and skincare store is there for. I hope this article will help you along your journey into skincare at least for the cleansing part. Have a good week my beauties!
