Review of Drugstore Makeup: L’oreal True Match Super Blendable Foundation

L'oreal True Match foundation

Finding makeup especially A foundation for me has got to be one of the toughest things to find.  My criteria for the right foundation is it has to be oil free, light weight, gives me the coverage I want which is medium to full coverage and doesn’t give me the extra shine on my already oily skin.  The price of the foundation is not usually an issue for me as long as it fits the criteria above I’m usually up for spending a few extra dollars.

For many years I only used a concealer and powder foundation and when I finally moved on to a liquid foundation, I pretty much used luxury makeup foundations because it was pretty easy finding the perfect color for my skin tone.  The one foundation that I’ve been using constantly was the Dior air flash because it was light and full of pigments and pretty much one of the best-selling spray on foundations.  But now I am open to try a drugstore foundation which I will be talking about in this article.  So I will start off with the classic L’oreal true match foundation and here is my review.

L’oreal true match super blendable foundation

Over the years this foundation has been a great seller and always in the limelight.  Well for one it has great color range and you can choose whether you’re a cool, neutral or warm coloring.  Which is generally a good thing because finding a drug store foundation that can match well with your skin tone is somehow still a bit difficult to find.

To be quite honest it is still not that easy to find a drugstore foundation for I because it’s either to light, to dark or even if it’s close to my skin tone it can be to pink or white on my skin.  I am a brown woman who can wear a neutral or yellow undertone in the foundation.  So that’s why I went for this foundation because it did have varying shades of my skin tone.

With over 20 colors to choose from and wide range you can definitely find a shade for you.  Its oil free, light weight and supposedly it’s for all skin types.  It does however contain vitamin a and to brighten and nourish the skin, grapefruit extract and wheat germ to help skin keep hydrated throughout the day and doesn’t fall into your lines.  This foundation has what you call a precise match technology that looks like second skin and you can control the coverage you want.

So my thoughts on this foundation is you definitely don’t need a lot of it.  A little bit on my brush instantly gives me medium coverage.  Add a little more and I get full coverage which is odd because their website says light to medium coverage.  I don’t actually have to use too much concealer with this one because it covers my dark spots and imperfections which makes my life so much easier in the morning.L'oreal true match foundation

I have been using it for a few weeks now and although it is oil free, doesn’t clog my pores and light weight it does make my skin shinier.  I can definitely use this in the winter because as it gets colder I don’t have that shiny problem but I’ll be putting this foundation on my makeup shelf for the spring and summer.  So for anyone who does have a shine issues throughout the day or basically oily skin I would not recommend this foundation for you.  Make sure you wear a setting powder as well because it does transfer everywhere!

As for the color itself with its color match technology I picked out W7 called caramel beige.  When I do put it on it does kind of look a bit too dark but as I blend it in it goes on seamlessly and matches my skin very well.  But because of my oily skin if I do not blot my skin throughout the day, the color would change slightly and go a bit darker on my skin.  So blotting paper and on matte powder is what I need to keep the shine at bay and the color looking perfect.

For $20.99 this drugstore foundation for me personally isn’t that bad.  Although I do have some issues with it, I don’t break out which is awesome and it’s one of the few drugstore foundations that has a decent color for me.  I’m pretty sure I would buy this again, but since it is my first drug store foundation I’ve bought I can’t say that for sure until I’ve used a few more to determine if I would buy it again or not.  But I would definitely recommend it to my clients and to anyone who needs a good foundation for a great price.  Until next week my beauties have a good one!

Being Nostalgic with Shu Uemura Limited Edition collection

shu uemura eye pencil review

These days there’s so much makeup to choose from and smaller makeup companies opening everywhere.  It’s like if you went to your favorite makeup store once a week, you’d find something new and exciting.  From foundation, a new mascara, and eye palette or even a new highlighter, it’s so hard to choose just one.  For me I get super excited and need to try out the new colors.  But amongst all the makeup that comes out, you need to find something that is just for you.  You may like everything you see that you have to be a little selective and see what will fit into your wardrobe of makeup if you have something like that ‘cause as a makeup junkie I know I do!

My black eyeliner was finished, so I was on the hunt for a new pencil when I happened to see a limited edition Shu Uemura and which featured the super Mario brothers!  I was so excited and I think a part of me was nostalgic when I purchased this product.  I literally was hearing the theme song of the video game in my head.  It is very interesting how something like a makeup collection can make you feel and act like a kid again.

But this article is not me as a kid playing super Mario brothers, it’s about the trend these days and that trend is about being nostalgic and fairy tales.  These days you can look like an 80’s star or look like a fantasy fairy princess and wear all the highlighter or glitter you want.  In this article I will be reviewing the eyeliner pencil.

Limited edition Shu Uemura black eye pencil

I know it’s but just an eye pencil like any other eye pencil but when it’s part of super Mario brothers collection and if you remember yourself when you’re playing the game as a kid and you hear the theme song to it, it’s obviously calling out your name.  Plus it was a chance to finally you something from this line that I’ve heard great things about.

This eyeliner is not only an eyeliner but can be used as an eye shadow as well.  It is very soft in texture but if you’re using as an eye shadow be quick to smudge it as it sets pretty quickly.  It comes in four different colors, pink, orange, brown and the one I picked black.

For $28.00 the package it came in was not what I expected as it was only in a plastic bag like package.  But the actual pencil was all black embossed with the flowers that were in the game that when collected you grew. (at least that’s what I think it did) you can correct me if I’m wrong about this as I haven’t played this game in such a long time  The actual pencil when you used it, glided on smoothly and the pigments in the pencil are great as they were bold in color.

I do have oily eyelids, but this pencil stayed on all day and did not smudge at all.  Wearing it on top of eyeshadows, it did not bleed into the colors and wearing it on the bottom of my eye it did not smudge.  You can get a soft winged look, but for sharper lines definitely use a liquid or sharper eye pencil as this one can be used as an eye shadow, the lines are very soft for an everyday look which is exactly what I’m looking for.

For me, I don’t wear a lot of eye makeup except for my mascara and eyeliner.  So picking out a great eyeliner that stays on all day and dozens smudge is exactly what I’m looking for.  But however you pick your next makeup item, just be sure you’re doing it because you absolutely love it or can’t live without it or your nostalgic like me.  Have a good day my beauties!

Changing Makeup with the Seasons

As the seasons change the change our skincare, clothing, even our accessories like bags and shoes.  We even change our color of makeup like lipsticks or eye shadow but we don’t change our makeup when our skin changes during the seasons.  You may need to or not and if you’re one of the lucky ones, good for you.  But what if your summer foundation wasn’t as effective in the fall or winter season?  You may need to switch a few things to keep your complexion glowing and looking fabulous all year long.

Here are some reasons why maybe you should think about changing your makeup:

  • Switch powdered highlighter as an blushes to creamier versions to get aid dewy look
  • For drier skin types find a moisturizing foundation or tinted moisturizer if you want a more natural look, to give you that extra boost of moisture
  • When it comes to powders, depending on your skin type we all need a powder to set the makeup and finish the look. There are powders that are moisturizing so it doesn’t fall into fine lines or look cakey.
  • Consider long wearing or waterproof eye makeup like mascara or liners if you’re like me and your eyes tend to water up like mine when it’s cold and windy.
  • And if your lips are like mine and they tend to dry up, think about wearing moisturizing gloss and lipsticks vs. The long wearing ones that tend to dry up your lips.
  • GLITTER! Wear it during the holidays or wear it every day.  Hehehe

This season I will be sticking to my Dior air flash foundation.  But my glosses, eyeliner and my powder will be changing.  I did do a review on this foundation before so I will link it in this article below.  My skin has changed and it feels tight and dehydrated so I just need to change a few things around.  I’d tend not to wear too much eye makeup as my eyes water up when it’s colder.  But one thing that will never change is me wearing my sunscreen.  Always no matter what wear your sunscreen, you may not burn, but the sun still comes out and even if it’s a cloudy day the sun is right behind those clouds.

Thank you for reading this article this week and I’ll see you soon.  Have a good day my beauties!

Drugstore Makeup Reivew: L’oreal Infalliable Pro Glow Concealer

L'oreal infalliable pro glow concealerFor many years now I’ve had the privilege of using luxury makeup, because I would receive them as gifts, training sessions and if companies sent us many testers over time I would give them to my colleagues and myself to try them out.  How are you gonna know if their good products are not?  But in the last few years, I’ve seen many changes but good ones to the makeup that is more affordable.  So it got me thinking that maybe I should mix it up and start trying drugstore makeup.

Plus being on a budget helps to make my decision a lot easier to start mixing it up with high-end makeup and affordable makeup.  Because we all know it can get expensive with makeup, especially when you’re a makeup junkie like me.  Plus it would also be great to know what is out there in the drugstore brands that you can go too when you don’t want to spend a lot of money or you have that makeup emergency and you can’t get to your favorite store to get your $50.00 foundation or that $30.00 mascara.  So here is my review on the L’oreal concealer.

L’oreal infallible pro glow concealer

So for my first drug mart makeup brand purchase I went with this concealer ‘cause my makeup forever concealer was running out.  L’oreal has recently launched the whole pro series, targeting oily skin and normal to dry skin, at least that’s what it looks like.  I do like that they are targeting certain skin types which gives me more choices.

This concealer goes for $12.99 retail value and what it supposed to do is give you a buildable and luminous coverage for up to 16 hours.  It helps to highlight, sculpt, correct and conceal imperfections as well.  All the while brightening your complexion to give you that awesome glow that we all deserve.

I have always been a L’oreal fan.  My first product from them was the voluminous mascara which I still love to this day.  So I did have some expectations that it would be decent enough concealer to use.  After using the makeup forever high coverage concealer, I wasn’t expecting it to be like that because that is a totally different concealer from this L’oreal one.

L'oreal concealer drugstore makeup review

Let me tell you I was pretty shocked at how this held up throughout the day.  I used it under my eyes and dotted on to some of my acne spots and it did not crease at all under my eyes, which is usually my problem area.  It did give me a nice natural, brighter look and the consistency was very fluid.  It blended very nicely with my skin and foundation and after wearing it for 10 hours, it still did not crease under my eyes.  But at the end of the day it look like it faded a little under the eye area.

This concealer gave me pretty good coverage.  To me, you can build coverage to a medium coverage, but it is not a full coverage concealer.  If you want that luminous and a nice glow, these types of concealers tend to be more fluid like consistency.  I did tried to build up the coverage, but it did not look that much different from the first layer of the concealer but nonetheless it covered my dark circles and help brighten the eye area.

To me, this concealer was a hit.  It’s easy to blend, covers up my dark circles and most importantly it does not crease in my fine lines.  It doesn’t say if it’s for dry skin and normal skin or oily skin, but I have oily skin and it was fine for me.  I would definitely recommend this concealer for anyone who is looking for a medium coverage and a concealer to brighten the skin.

I hope this article was helpful for you and I hope to be doing more drugstore makeup reviews for you.  Until next week have a great day my beauties!

My Lip Obsession Continues!

lip balm review

You should know by now I love all things lips.  Lip balms, lip gloss, lipstick, lip treatments and the elusive lips masks that I have yet to try.  But now that the seasons are changing my lips will be getting drier and more chapped unfortunately.  So I need 24/7 care on my lips during the fall and winter season.  I’m just going to dive right into my reviews of the two lip balms I’ve chosen and hopefully will last through the fall/winter season.

Clarins moisture replenishing lip balm

Clarins is based in France and they take a natural, botanical approach to their skincare which I love because who wants to put chemicals on their face all time?  I have used several products from this company before and I’ve loved every one of them.

I have used this lip balm in the past and I am going back to it because it really does moisturizing keep my lips looking plump and healthy looking.  This lip balm contains Shea butter and rose walks to really keep lips hydrated and moisturized.  It does contain mineral and castor oil which I think they really don’t need as a kind of makes the balm slippery but not sure if that’s the roles wax that’s making it that way as well.  It has a soft pinky hue too it but it goes on clear and gives you a semi matte finish.  There is a soft rose scent to it but it disappears quickly after application.

I do use it alone or under my lip gloss to give me extra moisture.  Because of its moisturizing power it really does keep my lips looking its best all the time.  I can even forgive the fact that it is a bit slippery because of its healing powers I am willing to try again.

maybelline lip balm review

Maybelline baby lips Dr. Rescue

Remember when these lip balms first came out they were everywhere?  I had a couple of these in my makeup drawer, used one and forgot about this one.  Now that I have found it it will be used for sure.  Here is the details on this one.

The Dr. Rescue is different from the other baby lips lip balm because it is medicated and specifically to help with dry, chapped lips.  The reason why it is a different is because it contains menthol and eucalyptus to help soothe and cool lips.  Because of these two ingredients it has of fairly strong scent and you do feel a cooling and tingling sensation on your lips.  That sensation does go away but the scent of it takes awhile to dissipate.  It may not be bothersome to some people, but for me I found it fairly strong and kind of hard to layer other products that may have a scent as well.  But the other ingredients such as Shea butter and honey helps to nourish and moisturize the lips.

It does really moisturize my lips and I find it comfortable.  Plus the affordability of this lip balm means I can put up with the smell.  I just pair it with a lip gloss that doesn’t have a strong scent to it and the added gloss from this balm gives you extra shine with the gloss.

When it comes to anything in beauty whether its $5.00 or $20.00 be open minded and give it a try.  You may just have found your next greatest find.  I’ll see you next week my beauties!
