Changing Makeup with the Seasons

As the seasons change the change our skincare, clothing, even our accessories like bags and shoes.  We even change our color of makeup like lipsticks or eye shadow but we don’t change our makeup when our skin changes during the seasons.  You may need to or not and if you’re one of the lucky ones, good for you.  But what if your summer foundation wasn’t as effective in the fall or winter season?  You may need to switch a few things to keep your complexion glowing and looking fabulous all year long.

Here are some reasons why maybe you should think about changing your makeup:

  • Switch powdered highlighter as an blushes to creamier versions to get aid dewy look
  • For drier skin types find a moisturizing foundation or tinted moisturizer if you want a more natural look, to give you that extra boost of moisture
  • When it comes to powders, depending on your skin type we all need a powder to set the makeup and finish the look. There are powders that are moisturizing so it doesn’t fall into fine lines or look cakey.
  • Consider long wearing or waterproof eye makeup like mascara or liners if you’re like me and your eyes tend to water up like mine when it’s cold and windy.
  • And if your lips are like mine and they tend to dry up, think about wearing moisturizing gloss and lipsticks vs. The long wearing ones that tend to dry up your lips.
  • GLITTER! Wear it during the holidays or wear it every day.  Hehehe

This season I will be sticking to my Dior air flash foundation.  But my glosses, eyeliner and my powder will be changing.  I did do a review on this foundation before so I will link it in this article below.  My skin has changed and it feels tight and dehydrated so I just need to change a few things around.  I’d tend not to wear too much eye makeup as my eyes water up when it’s colder.  But one thing that will never change is me wearing my sunscreen.  Always no matter what wear your sunscreen, you may not burn, but the sun still comes out and even if it’s a cloudy day the sun is right behind those clouds.

Thank you for reading this article this week and I’ll see you soon.  Have a good day my beauties!

My 2 Current Foundations: Review

Drugstore Makeup Reivew: L’oreal Infalliable Pro Glow Concealer

L'oreal infalliable pro glow concealerFor many years now I’ve had the privilege of using luxury makeup, because I would receive them as gifts, training sessions and if companies sent us many testers over time I would give them to my colleagues and myself to try them out.  How are you gonna know if their good products are not?  But in the last few years, I’ve seen many changes but good ones to the makeup that is more affordable.  So it got me thinking that maybe I should mix it up and start trying drugstore makeup.

Plus being on a budget helps to make my decision a lot easier to start mixing it up with high-end makeup and affordable makeup.  Because we all know it can get expensive with makeup, especially when you’re a makeup junkie like me.  Plus it would also be great to know what is out there in the drugstore brands that you can go too when you don’t want to spend a lot of money or you have that makeup emergency and you can’t get to your favorite store to get your $50.00 foundation or that $30.00 mascara.  So here is my review on the L’oreal concealer.

L’oreal infallible pro glow concealer

So for my first drug mart makeup brand purchase I went with this concealer ‘cause my makeup forever concealer was running out.  L’oreal has recently launched the whole pro series, targeting oily skin and normal to dry skin, at least that’s what it looks like.  I do like that they are targeting certain skin types which gives me more choices.

This concealer goes for $12.99 retail value and what it supposed to do is give you a buildable and luminous coverage for up to 16 hours.  It helps to highlight, sculpt, correct and conceal imperfections as well.  All the while brightening your complexion to give you that awesome glow that we all deserve.

I have always been a L’oreal fan.  My first product from them was the voluminous mascara which I still love to this day.  So I did have some expectations that it would be decent enough concealer to use.  After using the makeup forever high coverage concealer, I wasn’t expecting it to be like that because that is a totally different concealer from this L’oreal one.

L'oreal concealer drugstore makeup review

Let me tell you I was pretty shocked at how this held up throughout the day.  I used it under my eyes and dotted on to some of my acne spots and it did not crease at all under my eyes, which is usually my problem area.  It did give me a nice natural, brighter look and the consistency was very fluid.  It blended very nicely with my skin and foundation and after wearing it for 10 hours, it still did not crease under my eyes.  But at the end of the day it look like it faded a little under the eye area.

This concealer gave me pretty good coverage.  To me, you can build coverage to a medium coverage, but it is not a full coverage concealer.  If you want that luminous and a nice glow, these types of concealers tend to be more fluid like consistency.  I did tried to build up the coverage, but it did not look that much different from the first layer of the concealer but nonetheless it covered my dark circles and help brighten the eye area.

To me, this concealer was a hit.  It’s easy to blend, covers up my dark circles and most importantly it does not crease in my fine lines.  It doesn’t say if it’s for dry skin and normal skin or oily skin, but I have oily skin and it was fine for me.  I would definitely recommend this concealer for anyone who is looking for a medium coverage and a concealer to brighten the skin.

I hope this article was helpful for you and I hope to be doing more drugstore makeup reviews for you.  Until next week have a great day my beauties!

My Lip Obsession Continues!

lip balm review

You should know by now I love all things lips.  Lip balms, lip gloss, lipstick, lip treatments and the elusive lips masks that I have yet to try.  But now that the seasons are changing my lips will be getting drier and more chapped unfortunately.  So I need 24/7 care on my lips during the fall and winter season.  I’m just going to dive right into my reviews of the two lip balms I’ve chosen and hopefully will last through the fall/winter season.

Clarins moisture replenishing lip balm

Clarins is based in France and they take a natural, botanical approach to their skincare which I love because who wants to put chemicals on their face all time?  I have used several products from this company before and I’ve loved every one of them.

I have used this lip balm in the past and I am going back to it because it really does moisturizing keep my lips looking plump and healthy looking.  This lip balm contains Shea butter and rose walks to really keep lips hydrated and moisturized.  It does contain mineral and castor oil which I think they really don’t need as a kind of makes the balm slippery but not sure if that’s the roles wax that’s making it that way as well.  It has a soft pinky hue too it but it goes on clear and gives you a semi matte finish.  There is a soft rose scent to it but it disappears quickly after application.

I do use it alone or under my lip gloss to give me extra moisture.  Because of its moisturizing power it really does keep my lips looking its best all the time.  I can even forgive the fact that it is a bit slippery because of its healing powers I am willing to try again.

maybelline lip balm review

Maybelline baby lips Dr. Rescue

Remember when these lip balms first came out they were everywhere?  I had a couple of these in my makeup drawer, used one and forgot about this one.  Now that I have found it it will be used for sure.  Here is the details on this one.

The Dr. Rescue is different from the other baby lips lip balm because it is medicated and specifically to help with dry, chapped lips.  The reason why it is a different is because it contains menthol and eucalyptus to help soothe and cool lips.  Because of these two ingredients it has of fairly strong scent and you do feel a cooling and tingling sensation on your lips.  That sensation does go away but the scent of it takes awhile to dissipate.  It may not be bothersome to some people, but for me I found it fairly strong and kind of hard to layer other products that may have a scent as well.  But the other ingredients such as Shea butter and honey helps to nourish and moisturize the lips.

It does really moisturize my lips and I find it comfortable.  Plus the affordability of this lip balm means I can put up with the smell.  I just pair it with a lip gloss that doesn’t have a strong scent to it and the added gloss from this balm gives you extra shine with the gloss.

When it comes to anything in beauty whether its $5.00 or $20.00 be open minded and give it a try.  You may just have found your next greatest find.  I’ll see you next week my beauties!

Why Blotting Papers should be in your Makeup Bag!

shiseido blotting paper

Blotting papers: an oily skin best friend.  They keep your skin shine free and fresh faced throughout the day.  And you fall in love with them instantly because they don’t leave anything behind, they take away all the bad yucky stuff (excess oil) and they’re quick and easy to use.  Plus, the kind of routine you want for your oily skin is a very simple one that consists of as least products on your skin to avoid breakouts and having that very heavy feeling on your skin when you’re wearing too much product.  So if you’re like me and you want to avoid reapplying primers, powders and balms to matify the skin throughout the day, blotting papers are the way to go.

These sheets of miracle came into my life in my early twenties when I discovered them at my local drugstore.  Since then I’ve used many different blotting papers from various companies, as well as products specifically made for taking away the excess oil.  But I just didn’t feel comfortable putting all that extra product on my face, neither did my face.  So I’ve always gone back to using blotting papers and there always in my makeup bag and wherever I go.  In this article I will review my current blotting paper I use.

Shiseido pureness blotting paper

Over the years I have used these blotting papers.  They are fairly expensive than the rest at about $22.00 vs.  The normal 5 to 8 dollar range that they usually go for, it is quite a splurge.  But it stands out among to rest because it comes in and beautiful, mint green package vs.  The usual little box that all blotting paper in.  Each package comes with 100 sheets and with me that will last a couple months.  Depending on the season and how shiny my skin gets throughout the day, I can use 1 to 2 sheets a day.

On one side of the sheet, there is a powder that helps to absorb excess oil which for me personally does not get left behind on my face and it is a good size of a paper to absorb all the oil in one sheet.  There is a very slight smell to it but it doesn’t get left behind on your face.  Then I use my powder to lightly touch up and I’m done.

I love using blotting papers especially these ones because of the powder on the one side.  These blotting papers come in handy for me because I only have to use one sheet while some other blotting papers I’ve had to use two in one sitting.

I personally have used products that help to absorb excess oil, but the unfortunate issue is that you have to reapply them throughout the day to maintain a shine free face.  For me, my face felt uncomfortable and weighted with all that product on my face at the end of the day.  This is my personal experience and this may not happen to you, but choose wisely and choose what makes your skin comfortable.  Until next week have a good week my beauties!

Primers: The Base that Keeps It All Together

Makeup Forever Primer Review

Do I need a primer?  Why should I use one?  What are the benefits of using one?  These questions and more were also on my mind.  And there’s no wrong answer just if you want to add another step to your daily routine or not.  Plus it’s not a necessary part of your makeup-but then again what makeup is?  In this article, I will be reviewing my current primer and tips and tricks on how to use one.

My first time ever using a primer was on my wedding day.  And it was by Smashbox of course, because who hasn’t used one from Smashbox?  It was a primer for oily skin and I bought it because I figured my makeup would have to look great.  It was one of the best decisions I made that day, not to mention marrying Mr. Right.  So as I was saying, I bought a primer for the sole reason that it would keep my makeup on all day, plus it kept my shine at bay, which is so important to me because I have such oily skin that I didn’t want to look so oily and shiny in the pictures.  That day I looked gorgeous in the pictures and after.

Fast forward to today and I can’t live without my primer especially in the summer time where my skin gets very shiny and somehow my makeup melts away with my oily skin.  My primer that I currently use keeps my makeup on longer and it doesn’t feel heavy whatsoever.

Makeup forever primer

Makeup Forever step one Matte Primer

I started using this primer when it first came out.  A lot of the time primers for oily skin have salicylic acid and I find that it tends to make my skin feel tight and uncomfortable.  This one in particular uses lactic acid which is gentle but still hopes to treat the skin throughout the day.  Some of the other ingredients like ginger, cinnamon and chicory extract help to calm the skin while also keeping it shine free all day.  It has a slight tent to it but it does not leave any color behind and it has a nice, light scent that I do love and it doesn’t linger on all day so I don’t get annoyed of it.

The end result: it works!  I love this primer and my skin loves it to.  I have tested and tried other primers when I’m done with the bottle of this one, but I can’t seem to change my mind.  I put it on after my moisturizer and before my makeup obviously!  It doesn’t feel heavy, I forget that it’s even on.  Of course my oils on my face does come out throughout the day, but when I use this primer I don’t have to use as much blotting paper and powder during the day.  And that helps me out a lot.

Tips and tricks to using a primer

  • The golden rule: use a pea size amount. It’s all you need ‘cause if you use too much it starts piling your makeup
  • Apply it after moisturizer, that way it’s closer to the makeup and it stays on longer
  • Use a brush it makes it applying easier and spreads evenly on the face
  • It’s a necessary to put it all for your face. Just where you need it
  • Get one that is appropriate for your skin. Whether its color correcting or skin type, try to find one that is close to what you need.  Because it can look funny (color correcting) or feel heavy or uncomfortable on the skin

Until next week, have a good week my beauties!
