It’s been awhile since I wrote about lip products.  What I have now, like my lip glosses or lip balms have been working for me and I haven’t really considered getting anything else.  Don’t get me wrong, I do try any new products or cult favorites but nothing really gets me hyped up to buy it.  And because of my chronically dry lips I do tend to stay away from the matte and long lasting lip trend.

In my current lip collection I do not have anything that is a matte or a long lasting.  In the past, I have used long lasting lipsticks and they have made by lips dry out by the end of the day and a couple days after that my lips don’t feel right if that makes sense.  It’s like almost having an allergic reaction but without the burning sensation and irritation, just really dry lips.

But I know in the beauty industry, it is always changing and there’s always a new product to discover.  Matte lipsticks have been the trend lately but they have seemed to be getting better and even more comfortable to wear and moisturizing to.  But I was thankfully sent a few matte lipsticks from an indie makeup company based in L.A.  Started by a makeup artist.  Here is my review on them down below.

MGS beauty matte liquid lipstick

So this is my first time trying out matte liquid lipsticks and it’s been a very long time since I’ve tried a long lasting lipstick.  I do not have anything to compare it to accept the cover girl long lasting lipsticks with lip balm and lipstick color and for me they totally suck.  So I’m hoping that these ones are a bit better than those CoverGirl long lasting lipsticks.

Let me tell you a little bit about these lipsticks.  Their matte and long lasting of course, but when you read the ingredient label, there are very few ingredients but also very healthy and actually you can read each ingredient and know what they are.  Like vitamin E, honey, jojoba oil and natural extracted base material.  They are cruelty free and vegan friendly.  They are $20.00 each and they come in an assortment of beautiful colors.

Before I applied the lipstick I definitely exfoliated my lips and prepped them with a lip balm.  Literally in one swipe, my lips were drenched in color and it was super easy to put on.  After being pleasantly surprised by the pigment in this lipstick, I waited a few minutes for it to dry and when it dried down, it didn feel sticky and it didn’t feel uncomfortable or stiff on the lips which I was used to with long lasting lipsticks.

Throughout the day it did not budge or fade when I drank and had food.  The only time it came off is when I would wipe my mouth with a Kleenex but even then only a little bit came off.  But I didn’t even bother to reapply it because the pigment was so strong on these lipsticks, I just dabbed a bit of clear lip gloss to freshen the look up and I was done.  By the end of the day, it really did stay on and it looked great.

In my personal opinion, these lipsticks are really great.  Minimal ingredients, the pigment in the lipstick are amazing and they are truly long lasting.  But my lips are impossible and they tend to get sensitive with these types of lip sticks.  By mid day I did have to apply lip gloss on top of it because my lips felt dry but that’s probably due to the air conditioning at my work not because of the lipstick which never felt restricted or uncomfortable on my lips.  And when I was using these lip sticks, I had to wait a couple days in between wearing them because if I exfoliate my lips too much, they tend to be more problematic.  But again, these are just my chronically dry lips and I have to be careful with them.

Overall, these matte liquid lipsticks have me pleasantly surprised by the pigment and the fact that they are long lasting but they are very comfortable on the lips makes me feel like I can wear these way more often than the older formulas I used to wear.

This is why I love the beauty industry, because there are companies like MGS accessories who can make a great product that I once stayed away from but now I can actually wear.  I will definitely continue to wear these lipsticks that they have given me but I will also be more open in the future when I come across a matte lipstick I want to try because you never know until you try.  Thank you for reading my latest blog post and I will see you next week my beauties!

Tip: don’t exfoliate your lips every day, it will irritate and dry out your lips even more.  I always recommend exfoliating lips before you go to bed so you can wear a sleeping mask for your lips or is very hydrating lip balm so when you wake up, they are moisturized and ready for your lipstick.
