I love when summer comes along.  The shedding of all things heavy and dreary and excited to jump into something bright, airy and light is something I look forward to every year.  But with the summer comes hot and humid weather and which I’d don’t complain about because I get excited that I have to buy later and wearable makeup that won’t melt in the heat.

What’s in my makeup bag in the summer is my blotting sheets and a good powder to keep the shine at bay.  I definitely need these two things, even at my age because in a few hours my pores look larger, my oils come out and make me look so shiny that I could skip on the highlighter if I wanted to.  So what better way to pat away the shine?  A really good matte powder.

So early in the spring, I purchased a makeup forever powder and was super excited to do a review on it as I’ve never used a foundation from this company before and I’ve used a lot of other products that they have.  But when I put out my post of it on my blog, they came out with a new matte velvet foundation and I was a little surprised and deflated.

But a couple weeks ago I was beyond happy to receive the newest matte velvet powder foundation, their newest powder that has come out just in time for summer.  Now that I have both the old and new, I will tell you by the end of this article which one I think is better.  So read on for more to find out.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation

This buildable coverage powder foundation comes in 30 beautiful shades and the shade that I received is Y405.  There is a good size mirror, a double sided powder sponge, and the white side of the sponge gives you a sheerer look.  While the black side of the sponge gives you a fuller coverage.  The powders right beside the sponge and the look of the compact is a rectangle with a matte, black finish.  The cost of this powder it is $50.00 on sephora.

So what does matte velvet powder is supposed to do is give you 12 hour where without flaking, looking cakey or fading away.  It is supposed to help blur pores and smooth the skin, giving it a soft matte look without drying the skin out and keeping the oils in control.  You can build up the coverage if you want to from light to full coverage.

I have been using it for the last couple weeks and also using the older one to compare which one is better or if they are the same.  The matte velvet foundation feels smooth to the touch and when I apply it on my face, I can see it minimizing my pores and making my skin look smooth.  So by mid-day when I usually have to blot my oils away, I noticed that my skin wasn’t as oily as it usually is which a good sign is because it does actually keep my skin mat.  By the end of the day, it did stay on without it falling into my fine lines and my skin overall was less shiny.

The older version was also smooth to the touch, it also minimize my pores and also kept my skin mat, but not as matte as this one did.  It was also buildable coverage and it didn’t crease or fade away.  But overall, the newer one that won me over because it actually keeps my oils at bay.  I definitely would recommend this new one because it is a better formula and all around great matifying powder.  It has been awhile since I’ve used a powder that is actually good for my oily skin and coming across two of them from the same company old and new, the newer one being even better than the older one, I’m so glad that I got to use both of them out.

I definitely was not disappointed in using both of them, but the new matte velvet powder foundation is actually an improvement from the older version.  Sometimes when companies choose to change the formulations of their products, it can go bad.  But this time, it worked out well and I’m loving it.

Thank you for reading this article and I hope to see you next week my beauties!

Tip: the makeup and skincare industry is always changing.  New companies, new products and new formulations are always being introduced.  Instead of looking at it as confusing and not knowing what to choose, look at it as a new opportunity to try new things out.  Because if you don’t you’ll never know if you found the perfect product for you.
