Makeup Forever Primer Review

Do I need a primer?  Why should I use one?  What are the benefits of using one?  These questions and more were also on my mind.  And there’s no wrong answer just if you want to add another step to your daily routine or not.  Plus it’s not a necessary part of your makeup-but then again what makeup is?  In this article, I will be reviewing my current primer and tips and tricks on how to use one.

My first time ever using a primer was on my wedding day.  And it was by Smashbox of course, because who hasn’t used one from Smashbox?  It was a primer for oily skin and I bought it because I figured my makeup would have to look great.  It was one of the best decisions I made that day, not to mention marrying Mr. Right.  So as I was saying, I bought a primer for the sole reason that it would keep my makeup on all day, plus it kept my shine at bay, which is so important to me because I have such oily skin that I didn’t want to look so oily and shiny in the pictures.  That day I looked gorgeous in the pictures and after.

Fast forward to today and I can’t live without my primer especially in the summer time where my skin gets very shiny and somehow my makeup melts away with my oily skin.  My primer that I currently use keeps my makeup on longer and it doesn’t feel heavy whatsoever.

Makeup Forever step one Matte Primer

I started using this primer when it first came out.  A lot of the time primers for oily skin have salicylic acid and I find that it tends to make my skin feel tight and uncomfortable.  This one in particular uses lactic acid which is gentle but still hopes to treat the skin throughout the day.  Some of the other ingredients like ginger, cinnamon and chicory extract help to calm the skin while also keeping it shine free all day.  It has a slight tent to it but it does not leave any color behind and it has a nice, light scent that I do love and it doesn’t linger on all day so I don’t get annoyed of it.

The end result: it works!  I love this primer and my skin loves it to.  I have tested and tried other primers when I’m done with the bottle of this one, but I can’t seem to change my mind.  I put it on after my moisturizer and before my makeup obviously!  It doesn’t feel heavy, I forget that it’s even on.  Of course my oils on my face does come out throughout the day, but when I use this primer I don’t have to use as much blotting paper and powder during the day.  And that helps me out a lot.

Tips and tricks to using a primer

  • The golden rule: use a pea size amount. It’s all you need ‘cause if you use too much it starts piling your makeup
  • Apply it after moisturizer, that way it’s closer to the makeup and it stays on longer
  • Use a brush it makes it applying easier and spreads evenly on the face
  • It’s a necessary to put it all for your face. Just where you need it
  • Get one that is appropriate for your skin. Whether its color correcting or skin type, try to find one that is close to what you need.  Because it can look funny (color correcting) or feel heavy or uncomfortable on the skin

Until next week, have a good week my beauties!
