Before we even put our makeup, before we even apply a moisturizer we cleanse.  We cleanse to get rid of dirt, buildup of dead skin cells and makeup.  We start with a clean canvas, but we don’t put a lot of thought into a cleansing routine.  I know I didn’t take it too seriously before until I realized my skin was changing as I got older.  The cleansers I used to be for made my skin peeled tight, dehydrated and uncomfortable and now that I couldn’t use the cleansers I used to use I have to do some research and find some new ones to use.

If the cleanser was for oily skin, that’s all I needed to know.  Molson the time it was a gel based and it would have some kind of treatment like glycolic acid or salicylic acid to help keep skin mat.  If I use a cleanser like that now my skin would not necessarily be freaking out but it would feel uncomfortable and very dehydrated.  But even though I still break out, have large pores and have to constantly block my skin throughout the day I still need a cleanser that is deep cleaning but will not make my skin feel tight and uncomfortable.

So what do you do when you’re in a predicament like mine?  Well you basically have to listen to your skin and what it does during the seasons.  My routine now is fall and winter I use a foam or creamy cleanser and in the summer I use a gel cleanser.  It’s deftly not easy balancing the skin that one sack that the teenager but isn’t and that’s why I purchased my current cleanser by Neutrogena.

Neutrogena hydro boost cleanser

I chose this gel based cleanser for the fact that it contains hyaluronic acid (a little bit not a lot) which helps to maintain skins moisture balance I know you’re thinking it’s just a cleanser, you just wash it off and you go.  What’s the big deal?  Well it is the first step to your skincare routine and you want to start it off right.  You want a cleanser that won’t over dry your face but also helps to remove dirt and makeup.  That’s why this gel cleanser was a must for me.  I still have oily skin but now that I’m older I don’t need ingredients in the cleanser to treat my acne, that’s what my skin care is there for.

So what I do in my cleansing process is I pump a small amount onto my Clarisonic brush, move the brush around my face for a minute and to wash off.  It doesn’t really foam up and it doesn’t really have a heavy scent which I love.  It leaves my skin clean but not over dry.  This cleanser seems to be ideal for my combination oily skin.

So the next time you go buy a new cleanser just keep in mind your skin type, held the seasons affect your skin and what type of cleanser is suitable for your skin.  If your skin does feel very uncomfortable, very tight and dehydrated and even almost irritated after you wash your skin I think it’s time to change it up and that’s what the experts at your favorite makeup and skincare store is there for.  I hope this article will help you along your journey into skincare at least for the cleansing part.  Have a good week my beauties!
