CoverGirl eye primer

I love wearing makeup, especially the eye makeup ‘cause when it comes to wearing eye makeup the colors that you can wear!  Glitter, matte, semi matte, metallic and then there is texture of the eyeshadows which comes in liquid, powder or cream.  Don’t forget the shades you can choose from because you can go natural or go glam and use multiple colors to get the look that you want.  See how hard it is to choose eyeshadows?  But how do you keep that look from creasing or fading away?  The easy solution an eye primer that keeps it all together.

When I first started wearing eyeshadows I noticed that it was creasing like crazy.  Within 2 to 3 hours I would have such a bad separation from the shadows that I would have to wipe it off midday because it looked so bad.  I don’t know how I came across my first eye primer but I purchased the makeup forever seal and it did miracles for my eye shadow looks.  Then came Smashbox with its primers that comes in different shades for different skin tones which not a lot of companies do.  I would jump from one to the other depending on whether I wanted to go to sephora or go to my local drugstore to pick it up.

But now the drugstore Brands are coming out with their own eye primers.  L’oreal has a primer that comes in a stick format, Annabelle and NYX have ones that are cream based and Revlon and cover girl come with a wand to lightly dotted on the eye to spread easily.  So today I will be reviewing the cover girl one that just came out.

CoverGirl Lid Lockup in Universal color

It’s not easy finding a good eyelid primer and now that we have so many choices but I wanted to try something different than what I usually have.  Plus saving a few bucks wouldn’t hurt either so I decided to try this new CoverGirl eye primer called lid lock up.

Recently CoverGirl has changed their look on the packages so this package came in a black and white too but with the wand that you can dot on the primer and spread it nice and evenly.  It does feel sticky, but it does spread easily and very well.  It is a bit lighter on my brown skin but it doesn’t affect the eye shadow color too much.  It does have a slight smell but it doesn’t irritate me and it doesn’t last that long.  It does remind me of the Smashbox eyelid primer because of its creamy texture and the wand but I can assure you it is not a dupe for it.

Personally this eye primer is not that bad.  It’s actually pretty good.  I was a bit apprehensive about it because of its sticky and weird texture because I’ve never felt an eye primer like this before you can imagine that I was wondering how this would go with the eyeshadows.  If you’re going for a simple one or two eye shadow use look it works of very well.  But when it comes to blending eyeshadows together, the eye primer does dry very fast and it becomes a bit tougher to blend because once it sets it stays on.  So my suggestion is use a little less of it and if that doesn’t work, if im using multiple eyes shadows for a look I usually put a natural color eye shadow so the primer has something to adhere to and then I go on to do my blending with my other eyes shadows.

At $10.99 it is about half the price of the Smashbox or makeup forever eye primer.  It is affordable and it does work.  I am actually quite happy that I found one that is affordable, because us makeup junkies always need to have a backup just in case.  Have a good day my beauties and I’ll see you next week!
