Oh I love mascaras! I need and want to try every one of them and it doesn’t matter if it’s $5.00 or $50.00, it’s one of those other obsessions that I have about makeup. Next to my obsession of finding the next best lip balm, I love finding my next mascara. For me, it’s about finding the right mascara that will give me the perfect balance of volume and length and a brush that won’t tug or pull at my lashes.
When I first eye into makeup and I got my first job, mascara was my first purchase with my own money into the makeup industry. My first mascara? L’oreal voluminous mascara in black. And to me it was perfect because I had long lashes and all I wanted was too make them look thicker. Eventually my inner makeup junkie came out and I’d tried a little bit of everything that was available to me, plus having a super tight budget didn’t allow for too much spending so I would go back to my L’oreal mascara because it was the obvious choice for me at the time.
But now fast forward to now where I have a bit of disposable income and my mantra of “try everything once” I am able to pick and choose what I like to try next. Back in my days when we bought makeup, we didn’t have a choice of buying a travel size of anything including a mascara. Today, if we are unsure about a product or don’t want to commit to a full size one or your junkie like me and want to try everything, I’m glad we get the opportunity to do so. Today’s review will be on three new mascaras that I was able to purchase in a kit that was only $26.00 by Benefit. By the way they do have it in travel size as well and they are $17.00 each.
Benefit roller lash mascara in black
Now this mascara caught me by surprise because I didn’t think it would do much for my lashes. I’ve used mascaras that were supposed to curl but never really got the results I wanted. So going into using this mascara, I was very skeptical about it. Out of the three I thought this was going to be my least favorite mascara to use.
This mascara is all about the brush. Which helps to give you that curl that you want on your lashes which is apparently called the hook and roll brush. The brush and the formula helps to grab each lash and separate them while giving you a nice curl and volume plus 12 hour hold. They say it is water resistant but easy to remove and contains pro vitamin B5 and serin which are known to be and great ingredients for a lash conditioning.
This mascara gives me the perfect volume, length and curl as well. The brush itself surprised me when you hold it right at the edge of your lashes for about 5 to 10 seconds and you have a curl! The mascara doesn’t smudge or flake and it is very easy to remove which is really good. It doesn’t clump either because on my lashes I have to be careful when it comes to mascara that gives you volume as it clumps easily for me. So yes this is my favorite mascara at of all three of them.
Bad gal bang mascara in black
The name of this mascara says it all. If you want volume, look no further ‘cause this mascara gives you volume, the color is bold and not to mention the fact that it stays on for 36 hours! I don’t know if all ever wear makeup that long but it sure does sound tempting to see if it actually does last that long.
So what’s up with the whole astronaut and space theme around this mascara? Well apparently this formulation has these aero particles that is known to be super light from space technology. So it gives you massive volume without the heavy weight on your lashes which can cause flaking sometimes. The bristles on the brush tapers down all the way to the end so it can give your smaller lashes some volume two
My personal opinion on this mascara is I do love it, but I have to be careful with this one. A few strokes on the lashes and its major lashes in your face which I’m not used to. It totally gives you instant volume and with the tapered brush which I love, gets at every lash. The color is super bold so this mascara is not for someone who wants subtle and natural lashes. The brush is definitely my fave because it coaxes my short lashes to life and gives me that instant eye opening look.
They’re real mascara in black
This mascara gives you a little bit of everything. A little bit of lift, volume but most importantly length. Plus no matter how many times you go over your lashes, this brush and formula doesn’t seem to clump. The brush is also a cool surprise as it ends with almost a ball like shape that has bristles sticking out so you can grab at the smaller lashes and corner ones.
This one has been around for awhile but it definitely is a favorite amongst makeup junkies. It is long wearing and it is definitely for everyone and anyone who wants a more natural look but can also build it up to give you more volume.
For me if I think the brush is cool and I love how it does reach my smaller lashes. This mascara however does dry out quickly so don’t expect to keep it for too long. You also have to go over your lashes several times to get the length and volume you want. I don’t really mind it ‘cause I can control how my lashes look.
All three of these mascaras all do different things for your lashes, so it just all depends on what look you’re going for. And I have enjoyed using all three of these mascaras. But if I were to purchase one of these in the future, it would be the roller lashes. It gives me the perfect amount of volume, length and curl I need for my everyday look.
Well there you have it, three mascaras, three reviews. Until next week my beauties, have a good day.
Tip: if you’re running low on your mascara and you don’t have the time to get to the store to buy another one, instead of using water to extend the life of your mascara, use saline solution instead (contact lens solution} as this solution doesn’t make it watery and doesn’t harm the formula as much as water would.
