It’s that time of the year where we slowly start changing our skincare routine. To me, I do find it just as exciting as changing into my fall wardrobe. But the only thing that can be a little sketchy for me is finding lip balms that will keep my lips heavily hydrated and definitely protected from the colder and dryer season.
I do have my favorites or shall I say backups when I can’t seem to find anything that keeps my lips moisturized. But like any other skincare junkie, I always want to try something new. I also want to try lip balms at different price points and see which ones are really worth splurging or lip balms that are easily available to everyone and costs under $5.00.
Now I have chronically dry lips and for a while I’ve only used once that were more on the high-end and my last couple of lip balms were organic and not readily available for everyone. The two lip balms I’ve chosen to read about in this article can be found at your local drugstore and they are under $5.00. Did any of them pass my dry lips test and can you really find something that actually works for only five bucks? Read on to find out.
Nivea hydro lip care
Sad to say I have not used a lot of things from this skincare company. So why not start with their lip care? I’ve heard good things about them and not so good things about them as well but I decided to try this lip care and see what I felt about it.
At $3.79 this clear lip balm can be worn by itself or under your lip gloss or lipstick. This lip balm has Shea butter, beeswax which both help to moisturize. There is Castro oil and aloe vera and no bad alcohol, no parabens and no fragrance.
My personal opinion on this lip care is that it’s ok. The reason why I say it’s ok is because when I wear it by itself, it doesn’t seem to be enough and it even feels like it’s a little dry on my lips sometimes. But when I combined it with lip gloss, it magically becomes more moisturizing and keeps my lips hydrated. But even with lip glosses, it seems to be only certain ones that I wear which is very weird and this lip balm seems to be very picky.
This lip balm is probably the strangest one I’ve worn so far, but all keep using it because I’m still not sure how I feel about it and also it does work but only when I use lip gloss. Weird, right? Maybe by the time I finish using it, I’ll let you know in my final review what I feel about this lip balm.
Softlips Sheer color changing lip balm
I have used Softlips lip balm in the past before but that was many years ago and I didn’t have a good experience with that particular lip balm. So I purchased this one that is color changing and is suppose to leave a color behind. At $4.99, this color changing lip balm is in strawberry scent and is supposed to turn pink on your lips. It does have great ingredients like vitamin E, argan oil, beeswax, Shea butter to provide long lasting moisture. But it also has a special ingredient called commiphora mukul herb that helps too give you that color that appears on your lips when you apply it. There is no alcohol and no parabens but there is a scent and mineral oil.
So far with this lip balm I like. When I wear this lip balm, by the end of the day I usually wear it just by itself. Because when I apply it the first time, there isn’t a lot of color, just a hint of it so that doesn’t disturb my lip gloss or lipstick. But as I reapply it throughout the day, the color seems to intensify and there’s no need for a lip gloss. And I totally enjoy the fact that it changes color and of course it does keep my lips happily moisturized. When you first apply it the scent can be a bit strong but it disappears after a few minutes. So far I’m enjoying this one out of the two lip balms and I will deftly recommend this one for sure.
Now that I found a lip balm that can keep my lips comfortable, I need to slowly start finding skincare that will get me through the colder months ahead. As much as I love fall season, we all know that winter will be right around the corner. But until then let’s enjoy all things fall. Thank you for reading my latest article and I will see you next week my beauties!
Tip: we all know that scrubbing your lips is a go too for beautiful, smooth lips. But overdo it and you can irritate the lips and skin around the area. Try opting to exfoliate less like a couple times of week or when you actually need it.
