Skincare

Sometimes sticking to the basics of a skincare routine can be beneficial.  Today, skincare addicts like us can have an array of creams, a new sheet mask every day and not to mention skincare products themselves can have an endless amount of ingredients that you don’t even know half of them and wondering if these products are safe or will these products actually work.  Even someone like me who works in this beauty industry can get overwhelmed by it and going back to basics is all my skin really needs.

What do I mean about skincare routine that’s basic?  How about just starting with a cleanser, toner, a serum and a moisturizer.  Or how about doing the same mask once or twice a week and a scrub once or twice a week.  Or how about using skincare that has minimal ingredients in them so your skin can actually fully absorb them because in reality your skin can absorb only so much and the rest is a waste.  Plus, don’t you think it would be low bit easier to use less products just in case you have a reaction?  I mean if you use too many, you get confused and are not sure what gave you that reaction.

Because my skin and my relationship with it has changed, I’m trying to keep my routine simple as well as the products I use.  This year so far I have been trying to keep things simple because my skin as you know and if you follow me on Instagram, I had a bad break out at the beginning of the year and keeping my routine simple was very helpful in getting the results I wanted.  My review today will be discussing my cleanser and toner that I’ve been using for the last couple months.

Neutrogena foaming cleanser

So I’ve been wanting to try this cleanser and the toner that goes with it for a long time now.  I’ve heard good things about this cleanser and that it is pretty much great for all skin types.  It is 200 ml and it comes in a pump format which is very convenient and dispenses enough to wash your face.  The cost for this is $14.49.

It does have glycerin and citric acid to help hydrate the skin and easily remove makeup and dirt from your face.  It does foam up while you massage it on your skin and easily comes off without stripping the skin which I’d don’t mind, in fact I love.  But the one thing that took me awhile to get used to was this scent!  It was very overbearing and to be honest it smelled like body soap that you use in the shower.  I didn’t like it when I started using it and I still don’t like it now.

It is not a bad product at all but personally for me I wouldn’t use it again because of this very strong scent that it has.  It does thankfully disappear after a few minutes but this is a cleanser that I wouldn’t be purchasing again.  And for some reason it does says you can use it as a eye makeup remover but I wouldn’t use it for that because any time it got close to my eyes, it did cause some irritation like a burning sensation but not too highly irritating but enough to know not to use it for makeup removal around the eye area.

Neutrogena alcohol free toner

If you have been following me on Instagram you would know by now that I detest alcohol in my skincare.  For me personally, alcohol denat in skincare is not good for your skin and definitely not good for any skin type including oily skin.  This ingredient alone can cause more problems than solving it, such as drying out the skin which causes your oils to overproduce which can lead to more breakouts and shiny skin.  Plus it totally depletes your moisture in the skin leaving the skin worse off than when you started.  Who would want that to happen to their skin?  I definitely don’t!

Do you know how many toners shockingly are not alcohol free?  And  this is why I picked up this toner because it says right in the title alcohol free.  So I definitely gravitated towards this toner which is a 200 ml bottle.  You do have to pour it out on a cotton pad and the cost of this it is $14.49 as well.  It definitely is light and has an gentle smell which I wish was in the cleanser but it is a simple and effective toner.

It is a mild toner and any skin type can use it because it is gentle enough for all skin types but it helps wipe away any leftover makeup and dirt after cleansing.  My combination/oily skin doesn’t seem to mind it and it doesn’t leave any type of residue, just sucks up right into the skin and pretty quickly to.  It does have a light, floral scent but it is very mild and disappears in minutes.

I definitely would buy this again because it is one of the few toners that has no alcohol.  Whatever your hang up is in skincare, do a little research before buying.  It can cause a lot less aggravation and you can avoid causing more problems for your skin.  Treat your skin right and it will definitely show on your face, literally!  Until next week, have a good day my beauties!

Tip: it doesn’t matter if it’s $10.00 or $500 skincare products, these products can hide ingredients that are not good for your skin.  And just because its $500 doesn’t mean that skincare product won’t have harsh ingredients like parabens or alcohol.  Just be aware of what’s inside your products that you use on your face every single day.
