Picking out a perfume is probably one of the most intimate and emotional purchases you make. I know it sounds kind of weird but it’s true. When one is looking for a new scent, you can come across one that makes you star memories of when you were let’s say in college and your best friend wore it reminding you of good times with her. Or even the look and name of the perfume can remind you of the ex-boyfriend that once wore it and smelled so good but now you’re so passed it. I’m sure this has happened to you because I know it’s happened to me when I look for a new perfume.
My love for perfume started with my mom. I remember my dad purchasing either obsession by Calvin Klein or sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden and then hiding them waiting for the perfect time to give her favorite fragrance on a special day. I knew she loved them because she would drench herself in it that when she walked by she definitely left a trail of said fragrance. But they smelled so good on her that when I got older and tried it on myself, well let’s just say it didn’t smell so good on me. My mom loved perfume so much she would never leave home without it on and now I find myself doing the same thing to.
It is not easy finding your signature scent as any one of these things can change. Like you may like something fruity and light this year but maybe in a few years you might like feminine and floral. The fragrance you love now and smells great on you but it may not smell the same next year. Or maybe it’s no longer being made and sadly you have to go looking for new one. But all it entails is a good nose and a little bit of patience to finding the right one. Now if your beginner you may want a try everything and seen what sticks. Or you’re a pro at this by now and you know exactly what types smell good with your body chemistry. Either way finding a fragrance will force you to smell a few or many to finding the right one.
Sweet or light? Spicy or floral? Fruity or musk? Either way your body will tell you what will small good on you or not because what smells good on your best friend probably won’t smell the same on you. When you are trying out a new fragrance it’s a must that you try it on sole spritz it on yourself and give it time to develop on your skin. Because there are the top notes which you will smell it immediately but it will dry down quickly and that’s where the middle and bottom notes come in because those are the ones that you will be smelling for the rest of the day you should wait awhile before purchasing it. Unless you’re one of those pros I said earlier and you know what you want then go for it. My best advice to you coming from someone who has sold many fragrances over the years, have some patience and let the fragrance sit with you for a while before making the commitment.
Do you know how many times I’ve sold a men’s fragrance to a woman who wears that fragrance? And why not? If it smells good on and you want something different go for it. Men’s fragrances tend to be spicy or even soft and subtle that someone and gravitate to and they can help it if it smells good on them. The woman that wear men’s fragrances know what they want and know exactly what smells good of them, at least in my experience that is what types of women I’ve come across. And who says that women can only wear women’s fragrances and men can only wear men’s fragrances? I say if you love how you feel when you wear it by all means spray on girl!
I love smelling new fragrances all the time, but I know my limits and I know exactly what smells good on me by now. The three fragrances you see in the picture in this post are the ones that are my staples in my fragrance collection. But I do stray from time to time just to see what’s out there and to see what smells good on me. At least I have the few fragrances I can rely on just in case I don’t find anything interesting and new. As spring and summer comes around, I’ll probably be smelling the new fragrances and the classics to see if I will add to my collection. Because my journey of fragrances keeps evolving and mainly I’m curious as to what’s out there. But if I wasn’t curious I wouldn’t have found my favorite fragrances. So have a little patience and take a little time to enjoy your fave scent. Have a good week my beauties!
