The weather is finally warmer, the sun is out every day and we can file me put our winter coats and boots away. We can bring out our shorts, shirts, sandals and dresses out but not before we change our skincare routine which involves getting a summer kissed glow. And how we do that is using a scrub.
Well you want to get rid of all that flaky, dead skin don’t you? I definitely do on my face, elbows and especially on the feet. Sloughing off the dead skin cells that are sitting right on top of your skin makes it look dull, uneven and can feel rough plus when applying your moisturizer on top of all those dead skin cells it will absorb as well and can’t treat your skin the way you want it to. So when you regularly scrub your face and body, you can start with a clean canvas and apply your serum and moisturizer and makeup and you can and see and feel the difference. But to be honest with you, it’s not exact science as to how many times a week you need to exfoliate because every ones skin is different. But for someone like me who has combination/oily skin I’d tend to exfoliate my face 1 to 2 times a week and exfoliate my skin on my body once a week. So you’ll definitely have to decide what your skin can handle and how many times a week you want to keep up this part of the skincare routine.
When I finally got my basics down at a young age I decided to invest in a scrub. My skin was very oily, large pores and prone to breaking out and I was using retinol and doing chemical peels. But after using harsh products on my skin I wanted to use something a little less harsh for the summer, so I decided to buy a gel scrub with large scrubbing beads to help minimize my pores and keep my oils at bay. Don’t ask me what I used ‘cause I can’t remember unfortunately but I do remember using it 2 to 3 times a week and in conjunction with my strict skincare routine, it really did help out my skin.
Fast forward to 10 years later and of course I’m still using a scrub but something that is much gentler and doing it about 1 to 2 times a week now. I’ve been using scrubs that tend to be on the creamier side and ones that have smaller exfoliating beads. The most recent one is one of the newer ones from L’oreal that are sugar scrubs which I have never used before but I know sugar scrubs tend to be less irritating to the skin because of course a sugar scrub is way finer than the average scrub but can still exfoliate the skin just as good as any other manual scrub. Here is my review on this product.
L’oreal Pure sugar scrub: brightens and refreshes
This is my first time using a sugar scrub as I always thought it wouldn’t be enough for my oily skin. L’oreal has come with three different scrubs to choose from and the one I chose is the one that comes in the gold box packaging and the contents in the jar is brown. The texture feels like what sugar and oil would feel together but definitely this product feels a lot smoother and melts in your skin. The price is $17.99 so the price is pretty reasonable and perfect for anyone’s budget.
So let’s get down to the details of this product. This product contains three different sugars such as brown, blond and white sugars. All of them with different textures so you can get a deeper clean but without the irritation. It does have a few different oils such as grape seed and acai to help combine the sugars together and to help melt in your skin easily so the scrub can do its job while the oils help keep your skin hydrated. Plus an added bonus to this product is that because the scrub that is made out of sugar you can use this on your lips to smooth them.
My personal opinion on this product is I was skeptical at first and even using it the first couple times I didn’t think it would work out. But for the past three weeks that I’ve been using it I’ve seen a difference in my skin especially how it feels afterwards. My skin still does feel dehydrated and a little bit tight after I wash it off, but it doesn’t feel irritable and it doesn’t look red like the scrub I had before that would leave my skin like that. The scent of it is a bit strong but after I wash it off it doesn’t last on the skin which I like. It does refine my pores and the texture of my skin does feel smoother. It’s very easy to rub the scrub all overall my skin and because it is so fine it gets at all the dead skin cells and leaves behind a polished and clean skin.
Overall I am quite pleased this product and I enjoy using it. I also do use it for my lips because of my dry lips problem and it seems to have made a difference. But again this is my first lip scrub but it’s my first lip scrub so I have nothing to compare to. So I would definitely recommends product and give it two thumbs up. So until next week my beauties have a good day!
