Do you use an eye cream? I do as well but did you know that you actually don’t have to use an eye cream? It’s true! It’s not necessary to have an eye cream if you want to keep your routine simple. You can definitely use a serum because of its very thin texture, it’ll sink in pretty quickly and it’s great under makeup. But, I wouldn’t use one that has a high percentage of active ingredients like 15% of vitamin C. It could cause irritation and basically more problems you don’t need.
You also have to be careful with your face cream, because face creams tend to be thicker and texture even the lightest ones can be a problem. Creams are not designed to soak into the skin, rather they comfort and protect the skin. So putting it around the eye area can be tricky because if it’s too thick, you can develop little, white bumps called millia. Don’t worry though, if this happens just stop using the cream and a couple weeks it should clear up. Obviously if this problem continues, go see your dermatologist or specialist.
For the longest time I always used a separate eye cream but when I started testing out eye creams that had retinol, they were making my eye area irritated and my eyes were burning. So in between finding another eye cream and waiting for my eye area to calm down, I happen to have a serum that was safe to use around the eyes as well. For now, I’ve found a serum that is perfect for using around the eyes. Here’s my review of my latest eye cream/serum.
Vichy Liftavtiv Supreme H,A. wrinkle Filler
This serum at $62.95 is 30 ml and contains only 13 ingredients. A few of them being vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and their Vichy thermal spa water. But not only does it have hyaluronic acid, it has 1.5% of hyaluronic acid in this serum which means it will effectively plump the skin. There is no alcohol, no scent and no parabens. The company also says that it is hypoallergenic, which is great for sensitive skin. It also has a special way of dispensing the serum. It comes in a glass bottle and on top where the serum comes out, there is a slim tube where you squeeze it gently and this serum comes out. It is supposed to block bacteria from coming in and thus keeping it contaminate free.
I actually had to read the packaging to figure out how to get the serum out. After I figure that out, when I started using it and especially when it was very humid, I didn’t have to use a moisturizer on top of this at night. But after using it for a couple weeks on my face, I started using it around the eyes and thankfully it didn’t sting. It felt wonderful around the eyes plus it went well with makeup. Another bonus of this serum was that when I applied it under the eyes, I immediately saw an instant plumping and hydrated eye area. My dark circles looked so much better and definitely brighter.
I now exclusively use the serum around the eyes because I use a serum to help exfoliate the skin. After going through a couple eye creams and also having allergies during the summer months, I’m just sticking with this serum because so far it’s been the only eye care that I can handle. I’d definitely would recommend this serum because it hydrates as well as brightens the skin. It is definitely one of the fewest serums that you can use on your face, neck as well as the eye area.
So for now I will be sticking to this serum as my eye cream. It just does everything I needed to do very well minus the irritation and burning eyes. If I ever find an eye cream that helps with wrinkles, dark circles and bags that won’t irritate the hell of me, I’ll definitely read about it. But until then, this hyaluronic acid serum is doing just act. Thank you for reading my latest post and I’ll see you soon!
