I was introduced to cleansing waters several years ago when a skincare brand was being launched in Canada.  Cleansing waters was a new thing, so there wasn’t a lot of interest in them and definitely not a lot of choices to choose from.  And there wasn’t ones for different skin types and we all know that we tend to be more comfortable when skincare is geared towards our skin type.

My very first cleansing water was Bioderma which everyone now knows and literally makeup and skincare junkies love!  At that time, I was exclusively using if too remove my eye makeup and I was very impressed by it because back in the day, I used to wear a ton of black eyeliner and we all know that it’s not the easiest thing to come off.  Black eyeliner and glitter which get everywhere but this cleansing water took it all off.

And surprise!  I get my first allergic reaction with none other, a black eyeliner I was using at the time.  I was suffering pretty bad with itchy, watery eyes for a full day and looked at my cleansing water and said “let’s see if this helps”.  I soaked two cotton pads, put them over my eyes and man, let me tell you how soothing and calming it was on my eyes.

This is why I always have a cleansing water.  Even if I’m not using it in my routine, I have it on my vanity just in case but for the most part this last year or so, it has been in my skincare routine either as a toner or too remove my eye makeup and now as a double cleansing routine.  Yup, I have jumped on that wagon and finally started doing this routine.

Double cleansing usually consists of first an oil or balm and after a water based cleanser.  Since my skin is too oily for that, I’ve opted to use a cleansing water first and then wash my face the usual way.  It has been pretty good so far and I would love to review the cleansing water I am currently using.

My Skincare Routine

Avene Cleanance micellar water

This cleansing water comes in a 400 ml bottle and retails for $24.00.  It is specifically for combination to oily skin, does not have alcohol or parabens but has a slight fragrance to it.  This cleansing water is specifically for oily skin so it does help to mattify the skin.  Some of the ingredients in this product are avene’s thermal water, castor oil and an ingredient monolaurin which helps to regulate sebum.

This is one of the few cleansing waters I’ve used for oily skin and it is pretty good.  It is light and refreshing on the skin and doesn leave any residue to make it feel heavy on my skin.  I do use it to remove my makeup in the evening before I wash my face and during the day I use it as a toner just to balance out my skin and lightly hydrate my skin.

My only thing about this cleansing water is that it has fragrance in it.  And anything I’ve used that has fragrance in it around the eye area makes my eyes itchy and watery.  Personally for me I wouldn’t use this cleansing water for taking my eye makeup off. If your good with it, I wont stop you but if you have a sensitivity towards fragrances then I wouldn’t use this micellar water.

Thank you for coming here to read my latest article and I’ll see you nextweek.

Tip: Not all cleansing waters are the same and safe to use as a makeup remover and to calm skin. Look at the ingredients carefully and make sure it safe enough to keep your skin healthy and beautiful.
