The clichéd question, what is the one thing you would bring with you to a deserted island? Well to ask that question to a makeup and skincare junkie, it would take awhile to find the answer and when we do, it just couldn’t be one thing. So let me pose another question, if you were to bring only three items with you to a deserted island, makeup or skincare, what would they be? Well for me, it would definitely be a sunscreen and then a good moisturizing lip balm and last but not least, a concealer! Well why not a foundation instead you ask. Well, if I’m going to be out in the sun all day, a foundation would be too heavy and a tinted moisturizer wouldn’t be enough coverage. So a concealer would be just enough to cover any imperfections and I still look refreshed and radiant looking.
But before I actually started using a foundation, I only used a powder and concealer. My oily skin at the time just didn feel good with a foundation on because it felt like I was wearing a mask or by mid day it felt pretty heavy on my skin. So for many years, a concealer and powder was my go too and plus is pretty easy and fast to throw on and get out the door. And besides, when I was younger I always focused on my eyes. Bright eye shadows, eyeliners and voluminous mascara so wearing actual face make up wasn’t a big deal for me at the time.
Over the years, I’ve gone through many concealers. Full coverage, brightening, natural or light coverage concealers, all of them that promise to hide your dark circles and minimize wrinkles and definitely does not crease because that would definitely suck! But for some reason the concealers that are considered the holy grail of makeup, the ones that the majority of makeup junkies swear by and just can’t live without, I haven’t tried any of them. But now I am here today reviewing one of the best known concealers around and I hope you enjoy my review.
Maybelline instant age rewind concealer
This concealer promises to hide dark circles, minimize fine lines and looking refreshed and radiant for only $12.99. This concealer is in a plastic tube that has a soft sponge applicator at the top which you twist to dispense the concealer on sponge. It is 6 ml in the amount that you get and it is medium to full coverage. It is a liquid concealer that gives you a natural and brighter look but doesn’t look cakey or heavy while wearing it. It also has goji berry to help brighten the eye area and haloxyl to help with minimizing fine lines.
My personal opinion is so far it is the living up to its holy grail status. It is very easy to put on and blending it with a brush takes very little time to blend it. This brightening concealer covers up my dark circles and also times when I don’t get enough sleep and it doesn’t feel heavy, it does not cake around the eye area and even after wearing it all day it doesn’t crease and fall into the wrinkles around my eyes. I like the more natural and bright look it gives me but I’m also happy gives me that choice where I can add more for coverage and it doesn’t fall flat like other full coverage concealers can do.
As much as I love this concealer and how beautiful it works, my only problem is that damn sponge top. I feel this is the reason that I didn’t buy it in the first place. And yes I know you can wash it, but when you do, the sponge does not feel the same afterwards. Does that mean I wouldn’t recommend it? Hell no, it is pretty good. I mean I haven’t broken out from it and its not causing me grief. But would I buy it again? I’m not sure if I would because I know when I see that sponge tip, it will cause me to think twice about buying it.
So yeah I would gladly recommend this to anyone who needs a great concealer and is affordable. But for me and this is my personal preference, ive always been a little weary of products with its own sponge tip like this one. Maybe its because I have oily and problematic skin and I wanna make sure it stays as healthy looking as possible without products bothering or irritating my skin. Or maybe I should stop being such a narrow minded bitch and let my prejudices go and move on. Haha, just kidding!
Thanks for reading my article this week and I hope to see you here again with something good to read again. Love you my beauties!
Tip: If your concealer is too heavy or full coverage, try putting it on with your fingers and tap gently around the eye til it disappears. This lets the product warm up with your fingers and it naturally thins out. You can also mix it with your fave primer or face cream and that also helps to give a more natural look.
