When I was young and didn’t know anything about a skincare routine, my first skincare product that I remember using was a toner.  I know now that you should always start with a good cleanser but when I was 12 or 13, I thought a toner would be more effective than a cleanser to help with my already problematic skin.  And yes my skin was already problematic at this age but unfortunately it was just the start of years of bad skin.

So for a few years before I got my first job, I didn’t really use anything to help with my acne except just adding a cleanser and that was my two step routine.  As soon as I got a part time job, I started asking questions when I went into the store looking to buy skincare products.  But when you’re 17, your skin is still acting up and by the time I turned 19 I finally went to go see a dermatologist and finally got control of my acne and what an amazing feeling it was!

Going to a dermatologist really helped me figure out what I can do for my skin.  And it also made me a smart shopper because I know what I need to look for and what ingredients are effective on my skin.  Although my skin is still problematic, I definitely know what to do but not only is my skin still breaking out, I now need to add hydration to the mix because now my skin is starting to feel tight and dehydrated in the colder season.

So when your skin is feeling tight, dehydrated and its still breaking out, plus you also have combination skin so using too heavy a moisturizer is out of the question, what do you do to add moisture to your skin routine?  serum definitely boost your moisture levels because it does get into your skin a little bit deeper than your moisturizer.  But also a toner can add moisture to your face.  Read on to find out which toner I am currently using.

La Roche posay soothing toner

Because I am currently using a serum with vitamin c and a moisturizer that has glycolic acid, I just wanted a hydrating toner that will balance my skin and leave it feeling fresh and hydrated.  This soothing toner can be used for most skin types and at $22.00, it comes in a 200 ml bottle which for me will last for quite awhile because right now I use it twice a day but as it gets warmer and my skin gets a little bit oily, I’ll probably just use it once a day.

There isn’t a lot of ingredients in this product, it is paraben free and alcohol free.  It does have a light and subtle fragrance but it quickly disappears after you apply it on your skin.  It has castor oil and glycerin to help moisturize and also it has citric acid that gently helps too brighten the skin.

My personal opinion is that this is a great toner to use.  I still can’t believe that there are so many toners out there that have alcohol, so it is pretty awesome that this toner doesn’t have any.  Sometimes my skin can feel dehydrated after washing it, but using this toner helps to ease that problem.  I don’t have a problem with the fragrance either because when I apply it on my face, the scent just disappears within minutes.  Sometimes I don’t even smell it because its so light.

I guess my 12 or 13 year old self was on to something with a toner.  But now that I have a routine that I enjoy, it’s crazy that it was just a toner that started this journey.  What was the first skincare product that you used that got you hooked on to skincare?  I will see you here again next week, have a great day my beauties!

Tip if you’re having dehydrated skin and it feels tight and uncomfortable, definitely start with a serum.  If your skin still feels uncomfortable, slather on a moisturizer that fits your skin type.  But if you have combination to oily skin and this last step seems a bit much, put on the serum and see how your skin feels after several minutes and if your skin still feels that it lacks moisture, just add your moisturizer on to the parts where it feels dehydrated, like maybe just your cheeks and nose area or where ever it still feels dehydrated.
