I don’t know about you but in the summer time, my skincare routine goes through a big change. For the few, short months we have for summer, I don’t use skincare with a high percentage of active ingredients. I stop doing my peels and put aside my face cream that has 8% glycolic acid. My skin deftly needs a break from the active ingredients and quite frankly I don’t wanna have to worry about being super sensitive in the sun or having some kind of reaction because I’ve overused these products.
Plus, it’s good for your skin to take a break from these types of products because there’s only so much resurfacing and exfoliating you can do before it can actually start harming the skin then actually benefiting. My dermatologist even tells me after about three months of use, take one month off and then you can start another cycle of treatment again. But that is my skincare routine. But whenever you decide to do, just make sure you know what you’re doing and do what makes your skin and you happy.
So how do I take care of my skin you ask. Well, because my skin gets more oily and it can get congested easily, my go too for keeping my skin balanced is a cleansing brush, good clay mask and definitely a scrub. And of course sunscreen!
For the summer, I usually go with aid gel based scrub that have larger beads so I can give me a deep clean as well as scrub the dead skin cells away. Like many of you out there who are wearing masks at work, I have been breaking out mostly in the area where the mass covers so I definitely need to maintain that area better. Usually, I can get away with using a scrub once or twice a week but now I have opted to two or three times a week and with this gel scrub I’ve just purchased, it is helping to balance out my oily skin. Read on to find out what current scrub I’m using.
Neuteogena deep clean purifying cooling scrub
This gel based scrub is $14.99 for 119 g. It is oil free and non comedogenic, paraben free and alcohol free. There is a fragrance to it but because its being washed off it doesn’t bother me and the scent isn’t left on my skin which is good. It has salicylic and glycolic acid, methanol for the cooling sensation and potato starch (I know weird) that helps too keep the skin matte.
So this scrub is from the purifying collection that is more for combination to oily skin. It does have larger beads for exfoliating and it is gel based which I prefer in the summer. My personal opinion on this product is that I do love it! I can feel the beads working on my skin and it feels refreshed after using it. I do have a little bit of tightness in the cheek area of my skin but it does not irritate or leave my skin red. As for the cooling sensation, I feel it a little bit but it’s not tingling or you literally feel it cooling your skin. After I wash it off my face, I do get a bit of cooling sensation but it’s not a big deal. I will say it does feel a bit rough so for people who have sensitive and have drier skin types should not use this scrub.
Because I am also wearing a mask at work, I feel my skin gets more congested and I am breaking out here and there because I’m wearing a mask. I’m unfornately not the only one experiencing this and since we have to wear a mask everywhere we go or at work, my skincare routine will have to adapt to that change in my lifestyle. And right now, using a scrub that is a bit rougher than normal is what is helping to keep my skin under control.
Thank you for checking out my latest post and I will see you next week. Have a good day my beauties!
