Eyelid Primer

I love buying new makeup and skincare products.  I mean who doesn’t?  Literally every week in the beauty industry, there’s always something new and exciting.  Yes, it can be exciting and you want everything that’s been launched but at the same time you have even more products that you need to research and see what is best for you.  But for me, what makes a makeup purchase even sweeter is knowing that I actually finished a makeup product.  And for me, unless it’s a foundation, concealer, mascara or eyeliner, I really don’t finish a lot of my makeup products and to be honest who does?

So when I finally finished my eye lid primer, I was definitely on a mission to finding the next one.  Now that there is a wider selection of eye lid primers, I decided to choose two primers and pit them against each other and see you which one came out on top.  Because I’ve been using eyelid primers for so long now (about 15 years now) I definitely have a preference of what I want.

For me to create a eye looks that is lasting, the perfect eyelid primer would have to have little to no color, I have no problem with it being a clear liquid but if it’s a creamy texture, a powder finish is usually best for my oily eyelids.  I have used liquid eyelid primers that finish off creamy instead of powdery and they usually end up creasing my eye makeup within hours.

Now that you know what I like in an eyelid primer, I’ve picked two of them to review this week.  One is a favorite among makeup junkies and one I took a chance on because it is new from a company.  Plus these two eyelid primers are from companies that I have never used makeup from and I am totally excited to tell you my experience.

Morphe

Morphe Eyelid Primer

This eye lid primer is $13.50 and comes in one color only, translucent.  It is a creamy texture that finishes off powdery.  It comes in a squeeze tube so you can dispense it on your finger to rub all over the eyelid or dispense a small amount on two a eyeshadow sponge.  It is supposed to be long lasting, waterproof and keeps your eyeshadow from creasing for 12 hours.

I am definitely enjoying this eye lid primer.  It is very easy to put on, I apply my eyeshadow and I don’t have to worry about my look fading or creasing.  I apply it with an eye shadow sponge to get an even, thin layer all over my eyelid, wait about a minute to let it set and then apply my eyeshadow.  On my skin tone, it does dry down almost translucent but it does not disturb the color.  And it doesn’t crease, smudge or fade away and I like how it dries down to a powder finish.

Anastasia

Anastasia Beverly Hills eye primer

So this is a new primer that cannot not that long ago and they have two sizes, which I purchased the travel size for $17.00 which is a 17 ml and the bigger one is $30.00 and 15 ml.  This creamy texture primer is long lasting, water resistant and it doesn’t cause the eyeshadow to crease.  It also comes in a squeeze tube and it does finish off with a light color to give your eyeshadows more vibrancy and a brighter finish.

To be honest I really love how this eye primer feels after it dries down.  It is so nice and so smooth that your eye shadow glides on super easy and definitely stays on all day.  A little bit definitely goes a long way and I would definitely use a brush for this primer so you can put it on evenly on your eyelid.  Because it does leave a color behind, you wanna make sure that it goes on evenly.

The only thing that turns me off about this eye primer, is that it is too bright of a primer for my skin tone.  I find that it goes on very white and while other makeup artists are junkie mind like this, I really don’t need that white base to make my eye makeup brighter because it’s not the look I am going for.  But it is good for crease cutting, because if you are adding a metallic or foil or bright color of eyeshadow and you need it to stand out, this is definitely what I go for.

I’m not sure if anyone had this problem with this eye primer, but for some reason when I remove the lid to use it, it starts spilling over like there’s too much air in the bottle and it’s pushing up the product which is pretty wasteful.

Out of the two eye primers, I would personally use the Morphe one for everyday use.  It’s the perfect eye primer for me and it does work.  The Anastasia one also keeps my eyeshadow in place all day without smudging or creasing and it does give it more vibrancy but it’s not my cup of tea unfortunately.  But whichever one you choose, you will not be disappointed and you don’t have to worry about your look fading away, creasing or smudging.

Thank you for reading my latest post and I hope to see you next week.  Have a good day my beauties!

Tip: if you don’t have an eye primer, use your concealer instead as your base or even a setting powder.  Preferably one that is not too creamy and one that is a long lasting to ensure that your makeup does not crease or smudge.
