Everyone goes to stress, whether it’s the stress of kids, school, career etc. Most if not all people have had stress. Now, combined it with a pandemic and everything around you changing constantly and if you’re like me who has pretty bad anxiety disorder, well let’s just say it’s not a good mix.
When it hit my city it started getting worry some. But when the numbers of the cases started going up, it really freaked me out. And when things started to shut down, you have to start taking it seriously. But what really stressed me out was somehow I became an essential worker working in one of the fewest stores that were open so you can imagine how I felt and how I still feel.
But, I felt like I was handling it pretty well. I mean, I’ve been through a lot of stress and I usually know the symptoms, so when I felt more anxious and wasn’t sleeping that great, I knew exactly what to do! do more yoga and do my deep breathing exercises along with meditation. No problem! I had it under control. But in my 37 years I didn experience this new symptom I had from stress. For the first time in my life, I was experiencing hair loss due to stress!
So yeah, I was stressed out so badly that my hair was falling out more the normal. It started with an itchy and burning scalp and then unfortunately it started falling out. Yes, I do work in the beauty industry but there’s a reason why there is a makeup artist and a hairstylist so I was fortunate enough to have a friend who knows a hairstylist who gave me wonderful tips on how to take care of my hair. My first step, to buying new shampoo and conditioner to help calm my scalp and after that within a couple weeks, my hair loss started to slow down.
It honestly was an eye opener because I didn’t know much about hair Care Products but here it is of little bit of a background on my hair care before all this. I haven’t dyed my hair and 10 years, I do not put any styling products in it nor do I use curling irons, straightners and I don’t use my hair dryer excessively. I wash my hair every other day and I have straight hair. I only use shampoo and conditioner. So that it is my hair story so far. Now here are the two products that I am currently using to keep my scalp healthy and my hair beautiful.
Aveeno Kefir Probiotiv Shampoo and Conditioner
This shampoo and conditioner retails for $12.99 each. Paraben free, sulfates free, dye free and alcohol free, it seems to be pretty safe. The number ingredient is oat which helps too soothe and calm the scalp. It also contains probiotic kefir to help moisturize and soften the hair. Now the real question is, does it work?
Since I started using this shampoo and conditioner, my burning sensations on my scalp are gone and my itching problem has also been reduced drastically. The first couple times I used it, I felt my scalp calming down and that was only using it a couple times! My scalp was not happy before and with all the stress and anxiety going up the roof, no wonder my scalp was freaking out.
It does have a light scent but it is not overwhelming and it doesn’t linger for too long which I don’t mind. My hair loss has finally stopped but during the time that it was falling out I only used the shampoo because when I used the conditioner, more hair would fall out. Even when I used a hair mask, it would do the same thing but as my hair loss slowed down I did incorporate the conditioner into my routine but I only use it once a week.
My hair and scalp has not 100% fully recovered yet and I do get days where it still falls out and other days where only a handful will come out of the hairbrush, soap because of this experience you can say I’m still learning from this. It deftly was an eye opener and still is because now I’m looking into shampoos and conditioner that will help with strengthening it and looking into ingredients that will keep my scalp happy and healthy. It’s always good to learn something new vs. Not learning at all.
This hair journey is not done yet, although I will continue to use this shampoo and conditioner hopefully I can incorporate a hair mask or one of those exfoliating scalp treatment that I’ve been hearing that does wonders for your scalp and hair. Now that I’m learning and experiencing something else, I will keep you up to date on how my hair journey is goin’
Until next week my beauties, have a good day!
Tip: just remember you’re not an expert at everything! Ask an expert what their opinion is about whatever your looking into. Like, for example, if you want to become vegan go to nutritionist so you can do it the right way. Hire a personal trainer so you can start a good workout routine, talked to a pharmacist about medication, the serum going with this? Even I as a beauty experts went to a hair expert who knows the ins and outs of hair.
